Music Profile: Marina and the Diamonds

This past month all I have been listening to is Marina and the Diamonds. When I first discovered her, I was so shocked. How did I not know about her already? She has such a beautiful and unique voice that everyone needs to be exposed to. Since I know a lot of people don't have time to search video on YouTube or to research a new artist, I thought I would do it for you! Here is my first music profile with a focus on Marina and the Diamonds!

Marina Diamandis is the singer and mastermind behind Marina and the Diamonds. She a Welsh singer-song writer and rose to fame in 2010. She was voted number two, second to Ellie Goulding, for the BBC Sound of 2010. Some question "And the diamonds" part of the full name, suggesting it is the name of her "band". However, "And the diamonds" refers to her fans.

Her type of music is often described as keyboard-based ballads, indie-pop, and new wave. But all in all, her music is just amazing.

Marina Diamandis was born to a Welsh mother and Greek father in Abergavenny, Wales. At the age of eighteen she moved to London and attended dance school for only two months. After that she attended the University of East London then transferred to Middlesex University. She attended Middlesex for a short period before dropping out to pursue music.

After being discovered by Neon Gold Records in 2008 and traveling to Australia to open for Gotyle, Warner Brother Records took interested in Marina and signed her to 679 Records in October of 2008. After releasing her EP and gathering a fan base, she won second place of the BBC Sound of 2010.

Since then her fan base has grown immensely. She released The Famile Jewels in 2010 and was signed by Atlantic Records to Chop Shop Records.
